How to Exhibit with Arbor Gallery:
We are a not-for-profit organization that offers affordable opportunities for artists to
show and sell their work. We charge small rental fees plus a 10% commission on sales (rather than the 50% + commissions charged by most commercial galleries).
We prefer to receive submissions by email. You can submit your work by sending up to 20 jpegs along with an artist’s CV and artist’s statement. In your email, please indicate which of the three exhibition options you are applying for (Solo, Group or Artist-membership) Note: if you send a link to your website, please make it a direct link to the images you wish to submit rather than a link to your home page.
Artists with a strong exhibition record and suitable body of work who are applying for a solo exhibition may be eligible for an Exhibtion Assistance grant from the Ontario Arts Council. Contact the curator for details (see contact info below).
There are three ways to exhibit with us:
Group Exhibition
A group exhibition can be a group organized by the gallery or by a group of artists who decide to organize their own show.
Rental fees for Group Exhibitions are $90 per artist, plus a $10 fee for the cost of the vernissage refreshments. Artists must also pay a commission of 10% of net sales. Shows are generally two-weeks long. Please contact us at: arborgalleryatgmail.com (replacing at with @) to submit your work and to obtain a copy of our contract.
Artist Membership
Artist-Members are invited to join by the curator. There are at least 30 spots in group exhibitions organized by the gallery that are reserved for artist-members (at a reduced fee) each year, and each show is anywhere from two to six weeks long. Artist-Members also receive a discount on the www.arborgallery.org web portfolio fee and other special workshops and events each year.
Membership fees are $40 for the year. Artist members pay $30 per eligible exhibition plus 10% of sales. (Exhibitions at peak times of year such as during the May Show and Christmas are not eligible for this reduced rate. The annual show for recent University grads, INCUBATOR, is also not eligible for the member rate. Members can participate but must pay the regular fee.) The web portfolio fee is reduced to $10 per year for members ($50 for non-members). Artist members also make a commitment to gallery sit or volunteer with the gallery one day per month. Please contact us at: arborgalleryatgmail.com (replacing at with @) to submit your work and to obtain a copy of our Artist’s Membership application.
Solo Exhibition
A solo exhibition rental is for a period of two weeks. The gallery provides the exhibition space for the show and use of the gallery's tools for installation and kitchen (including 50 wineglasses) for the vernissage. The Gallery staffs the exhibition, gives the artist a set of stick-on-labels with our mailing lists, and a press list. We also purchase an ad to promote the show in the local paper.
The artist is responsible for hanging the show, invitation design, printing and mailing costs, and the costs of the vernissage. It is possible to share your rental period with up to 4 other artists. (If there are 6 or more artists in your group, you would rent the gallery for a group exhibition, see info below.)
Rental fees for Solo Exhibitions are $450 for two weeks plus 10% of sales. Contact us at: arborgalleryatgmail.com (replacing at with @) to submit your work and to obtain a copy of our contract.
