Apis Regina (Queen Bee) is a series of mixed media paintings utilizing images of Queen Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen, imagined as the Queen Bee.

She is stoically posed, often brandishing a beard of bees, allowing the swarms to alight on her flesh.

She is at once vulnerable to the penetration of their stingers and yet, like the carnivale performers who summon bees unto their bodies, she is powerful in her daring and skill.

Her sexuality is also teetering on a fine line between exposure and exhibition.
