Artists Statement

I started drawing as soon as I could hold a pencil, then took lessons in life drawing and portraiture, but as I progressed, I have followed several flights of imagination, including bridges on platters and zebras wearing overcoats. I am an enthusiastic landscape painter, inspired by travel, Emily Carr, the Group of Seven and Van Gogh. I have developed a love affair with acrylics and watercolour, while retaining a passion for oil, oil pastel and coloured pencils.

I love painting en plein air, watching hummingbirds circle my palette, and catching the mood of the landscape, while I incorporate my impressionistic reactions to the view on my canvas. I love the rhythms and repetition nature has given us, and the many different shades of green she has provided.

I cannot conceive of a life without a paint brush in my hand and the ability to transform the beauty into a work of art.

I am a juried-in member of the Canadian Institute of Portrait Artists, the   Portrait Society of Canada, Foyer Gallery, Ottawa, CARFAC, an Assoc. Member of the Society of Canadian Artists and have shown at the Parkdale Gallery, Gallery 7A, Sante Restaurant/Gallery, Gloucester and Cumberland Galleries, in Ottawa and the John Aird Gallery as well as the Trinity College Art Exhibition in Toronto. As well I have been a part of group shows in Sieci Italy and La Celle St. Cloud in France.
